PLAIN SAILORS NO MORE:
an absolute sparkle for Newquay's premier nightclub
The design team at Absolute has been spending more time at the bar than normal having been enlisted by national pub and club owners TCG group to conduct a partial refurbishment of Newquay's Sailors Nightclub. Aimed at encouraging more out of season local usage, the interior face-lift also required the incorporation of zones to ensure that the large space can be managed both effectively and economically, especially during the early evening period.
Sailors, with its 1500 capacity, has a reputation for being one of Newquay's oldest and most vibrant nightspots. To ensure it will continue to stand out from the crowd, Absolute set about reworking the four different bar areas, creating a fresh new entrance section and an enhanced lighting and colour scheme, in addition to adding quirky touches such as 1950s wall graphics - a fun reminder of Newquay's post-war growth as a bucket and spade holiday destination.
Complete with high-back booth-style seating and intimate mood lighting, the new VIP area is designed to be the ultimate hangout for the discerning clubber, and the main bar is certain to turn heads with its retro brick-tiled front and geometric wallpaper surrounds. In the new cocktail bar, Absolute has employed a black and gold palette and stylish curved banquette seating to invoke a seductive, opulent atmosphere - perfect for those late night soirees. Meanwhile, downstairs, a new wall wash and upgraded seating has transformed the nightclub's darker corner into a more welcoming lounge-style meeting place.
"Nightlife in Newquay is an extremely competitive industry," says Absolute's Helen Blake. "So it was essential to turn the Sailors interior into an environment that would be a real talking point. With five distinct zones for customers to enjoy, Sailors now has a really unique feel and although this wasn't a complete overhaul it really shows what a bit of 'sparkle' can achieve."
