Absolute celebrates the opening of Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall restaurant at Watergate Bay, Cornwall.

Absolute has been involved in the Fifteen Cornwall project from the very out-set, helping Watergate Bay with their tender to the Fifteen Foundation to house the new UK restaurant.

Once commissioned to the project Absolute Design set about "exploiting the contrast behind fine dining and a beach hut" as well as integrating key provisos set by Jamie Oliver such as the use of a reclaimed tree trunk for the reception desk; the colour pink; a chandelier; and the use of natural products; all of which are features at the original Fifteen in London.

"We wanted to create something that although reflected what had gone before stood on its own merit and translated Fifteen's original urban look into something that was more relevant to a coastal location" comments Helen Blake

The result delivers all of the 'special features' requested by the man himself but with a twist, so instead of a chandelier Absolute Design have installed a meandering lighting installation that stretches the length of the room and is made up of 78 water drop shaped pendants by Danish company Next.

Floor to ceiling windows frame the forever changing view of the bay and ocean outside while inside diners are able to watch the theatrics of the kitchen with its open plan. The surrounding walls of the kitchen area are decorated by a local artist who was hand-picked by Absolute Design to create an original piece of art on a grand scale. This feature has managed to combine the urban graffiti aesthetic associated with the original Fifteen in London and yet capture an imprint of Cornish beach culture, with its more relaxed fluid feel.

Statement making pieces of furniture include the AVL dining chair by Moooi, which will be customised by Absolute Design to fit the surroundings; and tables fitted with 40mm thick white Corian tops "we wanted to portray a certain elegance with the finishing touches but Oliver doesn't do linen or table-cloths so the Corian is designed to represent a white starched table cloth" says Helen Blake

There is also a separate private dining area, seating 12, with an oval table and pink carpet and is screened off by a reclaimed garage door that has been battered up by the Absolute team for even more authenticity.
